Chile: Procedures for vessels arriving from Mexico & USA

Chile has established procedures for vessels entering its ports from Mexico and the USA, in light of the World Health Organisation (WHO) alert regarding the "H1N1" swine flu virus.

The following procedure has been established for international vessels coming from México and USA calling at Chilean ports:

- If the captain of a vessel informs of the existence of cases with flu symptoms on board, the following information must be submitted 24 hours before arrival:
* Vessel name
* Origin – last 10 ports
* Information of the affected (quantity, gender, age)
* Symptoms of the affected, probable cause, treatment
* Hygiene situation on board
* Embarkation/disembarkation of crew and passengers at previous ports
* Any other relevant information

- In case of suspect cases, the vessel will stay at road without access by visitors on board until a health official evaluates the situation.

- The Health Authority will check on board validity for the International Certificate of Vaccination and Maritime Declaration of Health according the International Health Procedure of 2005.
